I have been accused of rambling on and on about why I love Denton, Texas. Sorry, I can't help myself. There are so many treasures that make Denton special and unique - and it's not just the cheap beer. One of those great treasures is the North Texas State Fair. No, it's not as big or glitzy as the State Fair in Dallas. But, it does have a real rodeo - with working cowboys - not just rodeo circuit stars. It has Texas music - again the real stuff from many hard-working local musicians - not the pop stuff sometimes called country. It has mutton-bustin', a beauty pageant for the little ones, a BBQ cook-off, creative arts contest, carnival rides and so much more. It's friendly and neighborly and reminds me of all the good things about Texas. It starts this Friday, August 15 and runs for two weeks. And the entry fee covers everything, including the rodeo. Want to experience Texas heritage and Denton at its best? Make sure to go to the Fair. I'll be there on Monday, August 18, with Sonny Burgess and Jolie Holiday for two shows. Join me for the fun...and for the cheap beer, of course.
